It was 1956 when Peter Mourelatos and his five brothers opened their first grocery store. Located on Mount-Royal Street, in the City of Montreal, and operating under the banner "MOURELATOU BROS", the store catered predominantly to the Greek and Mediterranean communities. In 1959, in order to better serve the Greek Montreal community, the Mourelatos brothers closed the Mount-Royal store location and opened a new store on St-Lawrence Boulevard where they operated successfully for 20 years.

In 1981, Peter Mourelatos with his brother Angelo opened a store on Jean-Talon Street. In 1987, Efthymios Mourelatos, Peter's eldest son, took over operations of the Jean-Talon store location. In 1990, Peter, with his sons Efthymios and Christos, opened a second store on Notre-Dame Boulevard, in the City of Laval. The Laval store showed great potential and so in 1992, the Jean-Talon location was sold to allow Efthymios more time to devote to the Laval store. Over the next two years, the Laval location expanded twice and operations continue to thrive.

As a result of the success of the Laval store, the Mourelatos family began a succesful expansion plan with the opening of a second store in Pierrefonds in 1995, a third store in Lasalle in 1996, a forth store in Ville St.-Laurent in 1997 and a fifth store on Samson Boulevard, Laval, in 1999. Most recently, in 2002, a Mourelatos Gourmet store location opened in the heart of downtown Montreal.

The leadership and tenacity of its members and executives, as well as their ability to adapt to change, has guided the Company through steady growth over their 50 years of service. Today, 5 store locations continue to serve their respective communities with a commitment to taking care of their customers.
